Pre-impregnated decor paper for finish foil applications

Pre-impregnated decor paper for finish foil applications

Pre-impregnated decor paper is a base paper made of wood free pulp partially impregnated -with acrylates, resins, polymers and hydro-soluble binders- during the paper making process by an integrated online impregnation system.

After printing and lacquering (off- and in-line), pre-impregnated decor paper can be shipped directly to furniture manufacturers, where the so called finish foil is cut to fit-size and glued directly onto wooden panels. Two steps in the value chain – impregnation and lamination – can be eliminated. Although finished foils is a cost competitive alternative to the end-customer, it is a value added product for paper producers and lacquerers.

Pre-impregnated Decor Paper for Finish Foils application is the perfect choice to produce decorative surfaces for a medium demand of scratch and wear resistance. It is a very efficient product solution for low to mid-prized furniture segments, but also door skin, cabinet, paneling, and profile wrapping are typical application fields.

Pre-impregnated decor paper remains a high technical product requiring specific expertise and manufacturing equipment. Today only few decor paper producers are able to manufacture and deliver the required and consistent technical properties to allow processing of high quality finish foil surface materials. Ahlstrom-Munksjö Decor Solutions made this paper innovation in the 1990-ies and is offering today the widdest range of formaldehyde free pre-impregnated paper qualities available to be ordered as FSC® Mix.

Finish foils, made from clean and green pre-impregnated papers really contributes to serve the furniture industry with a sustainable surface solution for a safer home and air environment.

If you are interested to get an extensive overview of clean & green foil base paper solutions, but also to discover more into details the special paper properties and their importance for the converting steps, such as printing, lacquering, and gluing, do not miss the opportunity to join the Ahlstrom-Munksjö online PIP -WEBINAR event on the 23rd of June.
